“It takes a village to raise a child. As a family we were struggling to navigate the school system for our adopted son. It seemed like every corner we turned we were shut down. In the midst of our frustration and frantic search for help we came across Interwoven Connection, which became a beacon of hope for us. Our peer connector embraced our family with empathy and understanding. We were introduced to support systems that would uphold us non judgementally with grace and dignity. With her help we became more aware of the rights to education for our son. We had battled for months to get a meeting with our sons educators. However once our Peer Connector was involved magically a meeting became possible in a weeks time. Our son was always labelled in his school as "not good enough". Our Peer Connector changed that narration at the meeting when she asked them "How do you plan to support his strengths?". For the first time the school was being held accountable; were they meeting our son where he was, rather than where they wanted him to be? She was present in person, virtually and over the phone to advocate for our son. She left no stone unturned. With her help the tables shifted and now we were being listened too. Thanks to our Peer Connector we are better equipped as we continue to navigate the education system that our son weaves through.”
