Interwoven Connections is an Ontario-based not-for-profit organization that supports families and relationships formed through adoption, kinship, and customary care. Our work is rooted in lived experience, advocacy, and community. We believe that all families have a right to advocacy, support and guidance. We prioritize empowering marginalized communities, particularly racialized, Indigenous, and 2SLGBTQIA+ children, youth, and families.

 
Purpose of Role:

The Community Connector plays a vital role in engaging with child welfare organizations and key stakeholders to enhance collaboration and awareness. This position is responsible for delivering in-person and virtual presentations Children’s Aid societies, Indigenous Family well-being agencies, related service providers, and professionals that promote Interwoven Connections’ programs, services, and mission. By fostering meaningful partnerships and encouraging community engagement, the Community Connector supports the organization’s commitment to making a lasting impact.

Priority will be given to candidates with connections to marginalized communities, particularly those involved in child welfare or those with complex health needs. This role is especially well-suited for individuals with direct lived experience in adoption, kinship, customary care, and/or fostering.

Salary:

$24.94 per hour

How you’ll make an impact:

  • Represent Interwoven Connections at adoption, kinship, and customary care-related events, promoting peer support networks and increasing awareness of available supports.

  • Build and maintain collaborative relationships with local Children’s Aid Societies, Indigenous Family Well-being agencies, and other service providers.

  • Work with Peer Connectors and AFCCA Family Supports teams to identify areas for growth in capacity building.

  • Develop and maintain partnerships with child welfare professionals, mental health providers, public health, and other community partners.

  • Deliver in-person and virtual presentations on Interwoven Connections’ services and initiatives.


What makes you a great fit:

  • Post-secondary education in Social Work, Psychology, Education, or the equivalent combination of education and/or peer and advocacy support experience.

  • Experience sourcing, navigating, and advocating for support services and trauma-informed therapies to meet children’s needs throughout their ages and stages.

  • Demonstrated understanding of anti-racism, including anti-Black and anti-Indigenous racism, equity, and the issues impacting marginalized communities.

  • Ability to navigate the public adoption system and knowledge of CAS adoption processes province wide.

  • Knowledge of provincial resources, including doctors, therapists, mental health services, programs for children and youth, and community services.

  • Excellent interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to build relationships with a wide range of stakeholders including service providers, organizational leaders, and families.

  • Knowledge or experience related to FASD, developmental trauma, AFCCA, and/or attachment disorders.

  • Manage competing priorities and meet time-sensitive deliverables.

  • Passion for ongoing learning related to team development and the adoption, kinship, and customary care community.

  • Proficient with computers and technological applications, including databases and Microsoft O365 (Teams, Outlook, Excel, Word, and PowerPoint).

  • Comfort and familiarity with various social media applications.

  • Passion, integrity, energy, and desire to make a difference for families formed through adoption, kinship, and/or customary care arrangements.

  • Knowledge of marginalized communities' experiences within the child welfare system and experience providing services to African Canadian and Indigenous children, youth, and families.

  • Great communication skills in English, both written and spoken. French is a plus!
