We’re hiring an AFCCA Clinician
Role details:
Location: Remote (Work virtually anywhere in Ontario)
Salary: $53.00 - $56.00 per hour
Hours of Work: 20 hours per week
Contract: 6-month contract with possibility of extension
Reports to: Service Delivery and Family Support Programs Manager

Purpose of the role:
The AFCCA clinician is responsible for providing intensive clinical support to families formed through adoption who are experiencing Aggression toward Family/Caregivers in Childhood & Adolescence (AFCCA), in collaboration with the Peer to Peer Support Network (P2P) Peer Connectors and AFCCA Provincial Peer Connectors. The AFCCA Clinical Lead will offer expert clinical guidance for the professional development of Interwoven Connections staff, with a focus on AFCCA and related complex needs such as trauma, mental health, self-harm, attachment disorders, and vicarious trauma. They will also maintain a caseload of families navigating highly complex issues related to AFCCA.
How you’ll make an impact:
Clinical
Deliver intensive, high-touch clinical support alongside the Peer to Peer Support Network (P2P) Peer Connectors (IPCs) for families experiencing AFCCA.
Maintain a caseload of families facing complex co-occurring challenges related to AFCCA, including developmental trauma, Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD), attachment disorders, and issues involving the mental health of the child/youth or caregiver.
Engage in ongoing professional development to ensure a strong understanding of issues faced by families that are commonly observed to occur with AFCCA, including attachment disorders, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), FASD, sensory processing and integration, anxiety, learning disabilities, and other neurodevelopmental disorders.
Co-facilitate clinician led support groups for caregivers experiencing AFCCA.
Maintain accurate and timely case notes for families supported through the AFCCA program.
Practice development
Participate in case conferences with AFCCA Clinical Leads, P2P IPCs, Provincial PCs, and system partners.
Host one-on-one virtual meetings with Peer Connectors as needed.
Collaborate with the Peer to Peer Support Network (P2P) team and Interwoven Connections staff.
Education and Professional Development
Provide clinical expertise and collaborates with AFCCA Clinical Leads to develop educational materials and training for staff on trauma, FASD, attachment, mental health, caregiver support, and related topics.
Professional network
Foster positive and collaborative working relationships with affiliated regional planning tables, societies, organizations, and associations working with families of children with complex needs.
What makes you a great fit:
Strong understanding of the public adoption system, including kinship and customary care, and the family well-being/protection process.
Familiarity with local and regional support resources (healthcare, mental health, youth programs, cultural services), ideally with demonstrated competencies in adoption, kinship, or customary care.
Commitment to continuous learning and participation in ongoing mandatory training.
Master of Social Work, or registration as a Psychotherapist, Psychologist, or Occupational Therapist with 3+ years of relevant experience. RSWs with 5+ years related experience will be considered. Proof of good standing with regulatory college required.
In-depth knowledge of AFCCA, including therapeutic practices, trauma-informed care, attachment, neurodevelopmental conditions, caregiver burnout, PTSD, and behavior management in home/community settings.
Work experience in a leadership role providing clinical support to individuals, families, and colleagues required.
Strong relationship-building skills with a wide range of stakeholders, including service providers, organizational leaders, and families.
Excellent communication skills both written and verbal in English, and with bilingualism an asset.
Cultural sensitivity and competency in working with those from equity seeking groups.
Experience with managing competing priorities with multiple highly complex families in crisis being served.
Proficient with computers, Microsoft O365, and using a database for timely and complete case noting and outcomes reporting.
